Altoona

Altoona River Prairie

The City of Altoona, Wisconsin, turned to Modular Trail Structures to design and build a unique boardwalk solution for a large park development project along the Eau Claire River. The city aimed to blend urban aesthetics with the beauty of the riverfront.

One of the city’s primary goals was to have no sharp angles but rather a smooth, continual flow of the park path. Modular Trail Structures designed and built a perfect radius boardwalk, bending the steel to achieve smooth lines and centering the footings underneath the frames so they were hidden. The path also included two H5-rated free-span bridges that cross over the man-made stream flowing through the park.

Boardwalk Specifications:

  • Length: 100 lineal feet of 6’ wide boardwalk with 15’ and 20’ H5-rated free span bridges

  • Frame: Corten Steel

  • Decking: Black Locuct

  • ADA curb with lighting
